History of National Dance Day

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, a popular dance show over the last few years has made great strides to bring awareness to the positive impact dance can make in people’s lives. Last year, Congress made this push official, passing a bill making July 31, 2010, the first inaugural National Dance Day. National Dance Day’s aim is to “promote health and self-esteem through the art form of dance.” The producer, Nigel Lythgoe and the show SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE encourage people across the nation to use National Dance Day as a way to promote dance education and physical fitness across the U.S.
